A prominent politico in the Matale district is said to be giving away sarees to women attending various public functions being held there these days.
The politico is distributing the sarees to woo the preference vote of the womenfolk in the district, they say.
At the last general polls, this politico generously distributed roofing sheets, mamoty blades, seed paddy etc. and in view of the upcoming polls, he is distributing sarees which he had got down from a neighbouring country.
“It is only our amatituma who gives us something useful,” some saree-recipient-woman would happily remark, they say.
