Turning the back on the setting Sun

A certain governing one recently organized a pooja with much fanfare to bestow blessings on a very high political authority.

He once functioned as a chief purohita in a distant area in the country. The governing one had invited the party heavyweights and the white-collar high-ups in the province to participate in the much publicized pooja held at a special devalaya in Kandy. However, only ninety people had turned up at the pooja ceremony. Among the participants there were two former white- collar high-ups who were said to be vying for the chief secretary post in the province. The poor turnout on the occasion bears testimony to a common characteristic of our people: worshipping the rising Sun and turning the back on the setting Sun, they say.
