Sabotage bid ended up as a publicity boost!

Green party’s unsuccessful big poll candidate Saji has planned to go round the country to thank the voters who supported him at the poll.

The first meeting to thank voters was held at Kolonnawa the other day. It was the Diyawanna politico looking after the electorate who had organised this meeting.

The news that Mariks was organising a ‘thanksgiving’ meeting for Saji had highly disconcerted Ranil loyalists like the secretarial one and the two ‘Nayakes -the one from Colombo and the other from central hills – and they had decided to do whatever possible to sabotage the event. They had immediately got in touch with the prominent party activists in the area and had asked them to boycott the event along with their followers.

The story that there was a move afoot to take the shine off the event spread like a wildfire on the eve of the planned meeting. And some thought it would turn out to be a non-event. But what happened finally was just the opposite.

An unexpectedly huge crowd turned up at the meeting. The event turned out to be a grand success, they say.
