The senior most Leftist Diyawanna member – incidentally the oldest Marxist politico among the living today – marked his eightieth birthday recently.
The bearded maverick politico graced his presence in the august assembly ever since his election to it at the 1970 general elections except for some intervals following his defeat at the polls.
After being in several political parties and groupings, some of which led by himself, he has now thrown in his lot with Pohottuwa led by the former strongman.
A politico known to turn vituperative when provoked, this worthy has incurred the displeasure of several Pohottuwa high-ups for tongue-lashing them in public.
By the way, a ceremony to felicitate the ‘old warrior’ had been organized in the gem city area recently. And the front-liners of both JO and Pohottuwa had been invited to it. However, according to our information, though practically all JO members had attended this felicitation ceremony, the Pohottuwa high-ups were conspicuous by their absence at the event, they say.
