A large crowd turned up at the Green front’s inaugural rally held at the Galle Face Green.
Earlier, the organizing committee faced the problem of raising adequate funds to meet the cost of transporting the party supporters to the venue of the rally and back their homes which necessitated the hiring of a large number of buses. It transpired at a discussion of the party heavyweights, who met to look into the financial problem that the transport bill would cost several millions of rupees and none of them appeared willing to foot this bill.
When everyone was cringing when the question was posed as to who could meet this cost, a certain Green- front politico volunteered to foot the entire transport bill.
Now all might want to know who that generous politico was! He said that he did not expect kudos or recognition for his generous gesture. The meeting over, he left for his ancestral home in the Vilpattu area. The others also happily dispersed, they say.
