He kept knocking and the door was opened!

A prominent politico of an upcountry estate sector- based minor political party had been in a sulk ever since the new regime assumed office. Having thrown his full weight behind the Greens-led alliance during the 52-day crisis, this politico expected to get a place in the new top team.

He had made a series of appeals to the Green leadership without avail. Every time he made an appeal, the Green leadership had given him the stock reply: Our hands are tied by the constitutional ceiling on number 30.

Finally, the estate sector politico called on Number One seeking redress to his grievance.

Number One who warmly welcomed the visitor asked him: “Is there any special reason for your wanting to see me?”

“No, Sir! I just thought of seeing you!”

“Just to see me? Surely, you must be having some reason!”

“I can’t say I don’t have a reason either!”

“Then come out with it!”

“Why don’t you consider me for a Cabinet portfolio, Sir?”

“You have to put this question not to me, but to the Green party chief! I am quite helpless!”

“Okay! Sir! Wish you a good day for you!”

Two or three days later the estate sector politico was offered a high office though it was not as high as he expected it to be!
