The former Madam with the active support of the Kalutara Rebel held a ‘party convention’ in the city recently. A sizable section of the party’s rank and file attended this event.
Meanwhile, a young Green member who wanted to make a song and dance about this event videoed the proceedings as well as interviews held with several participants and later posted the footage on the Facebook. An English version of a live interview the young man had with a Blue party participant in Sinhala runs as follows:
The young man: Where are you from?
Participant: We are from Colombo! The young man: Why did you come here?
Participant: Mahinda destroyed our party! Maithri also destroyed it! Madam has come forward to save it!
The young man: However (your) party is supporting the Pohottuwa this time round!
Participant: How can that be? We are winning!
The young man: Whom are you referring to as ‘we’?
Participant: Elephant!
Participant: Aren’t you in the ‘Hand’ party? With the Elephant?
Participant: Whatever we are, we love our party!
The answers being given by the participant who appeared slightly drunk seemed to have sent a ripple of unease through the other participants listening to the dialogue, for at this stage one of them intervened to give answers to the interviewer.
