Top Lankan-born venture capitalist calls on President

​Sri Lankan-born Silicon Valley technologist and ‘Social + Capital’ venture capital firm founder, Chamath Palihapitiya met President Maithripala Sirisena recently to discuss opportunities available here and to play a role in the growth of the country. Palihapitiya was in Sri Lanka on the invitation of State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena.



Palihapitiya has many gems in his crown of success including being a founder member of the Facebook management team. Not one to rest on his laurels he soon spread his wings as an investor, investing in companies that he knew would catch the attention of the ‘bigger players.’ He started his own venture capital fund called The Social + Capital— a venture that raised over US$ 275 million. Palihapitiya’s net worth is estimated at US $ 1.2 billion.
