The Kandy Cancer Treatment Unit Fund signed a M.O.U. with Sri Lanka’s famous son, Muthiah Muralidaran, appointing him as Brand Ambassador, on the 18th of October.

The new Kandy Cancer Treatment Unit will be a state-of-the-art, spacious facility, situated at the Kandy General Hospital. This Public-Private project was initiated by the Cancer Society to fill a desperate need for treatment of cancer patients from five out of Sri Lanka’s nine Provinces.

A Public-Private committee, headed by Chairman Mohan Samarakoon has the daunting task of collecting a sizable sum of money, running in to hundreds of millions, to see the new Cancer Treatment Unit completed. “We have every confidence of achieving this goal” says Mr. Samarakoon, “as the people of our country are so generous. It’s this generosity – the generosity of the person in the street – that will see this project through. Murali signing on as Brand Ambassador, of course, will take our fund raising capabilities a notch higher, increasing our exposure internationally as well.”

Muralidaran, speaking on the occasion, offered his insights and experiences in heading various charitable causes and funds, which was appreciated by all present.
