Harry J’s son appointed to Distilleries board

Don Hasitha Stassen Jayawardena, bearing the same initials of his father business tycoon Harry Jayawardena, with the trademark Stassen name, has been appointed to the director board of Distilleries Company Sri Lanka PLC (DCSL) in the capacity of a Non-Executive Director with effect from November 21, 2014.

 


As at September 30, 2014, Hasitha was the 18th largest shareholder of Distilleries with 1.88 million shares.Hasitha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration BBA (Hons) from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom.He joined the Stassen group in February 2013. Hasitha is a Director of Stassent Exports (Pvt.) Ltd, Milford Exports (Ceylon) (Pvt.) Ltd, Stassen International (Pvt.) Ltd, Stassen Natural Foods (Pvt.) Ltd, Ceylon Garden Coir (Pvt.) Ltd, Milford Developers (Pvt.) Ltd, Stassen Foods (Pvt.) Ltd, C.B.D. Exports (Pvt.) Ltd and Mesen Range (Pvt.) Ltd.

 


Hasitha has also worked as an Intern at the Clinton Global Initiative Programme (CGI) in New York in 2007.Accordingly, the director board of Distilleries now comprises of Harry Jayawardena (Chairman), R.K. Obeysekera, C.R. Jansz, Niranjan Deva Aditya, A.N. Balasuriya, J. Kahnda, A.L. Gooneratne, V.J. Senaratne and Hasitha Jayawardena. Hasitha’s sister, Stasshani Jayawardena was appointed to the Aitken Spence board last year.Harry Jayawardena owns no shares in DCSL in his personal capacity but controls the company’s two biggest shareholders, Milford Exports and Lanka Milk Foods.
