FedEx launches first all-electric delivery vehicle in Sri Lanka

With sustainable business practices in mind a significant initiative towards adopting ecofriendly business mechanisms was recently spearheaded by Mountain Hawk Express (MHE) – Licensee of Federal Express Corporation in Sri Lanka. After months of due diligence and research, MHE has made a move what is today alien to many but will certainly pave the way in harnessing renewable energy in the future.

 


According to Sanjeeva Abeygoonewardena, CEO of MHE, conducting business in a more futuristic yet sustainable manner is an integral aspect of the organization’s business strategy and moving into renewable energy driven vehicles was part of MHE’s green initiatives. Therefore, after almost a year of meticulous research and planning the first ever FedEx branded electric delivery van can now been seen making package deliveries and pickups throughout t he streets of Colombo city.

 


Being a responsible corporate citizen, the institution takes pride in establishing this special project where they aim to educate the general public about eco-friendly transportation technologies that are available. These options are made available through global technological advancements, and will encourage customers to convert to the utilisation of eco-friendly energy sources.Moreover, FedEx has also taken worldwide initiative in offsetting carbon emissions. 364 l ow emission hybrid vehicles, 118 Zero emission electric vehicles and zero emission electric tricycles have been introduced to the FedEx fleet by the end of 2012.
