Durdans Hospital established its flagship facility Durdans Heart Centre in 1999 with cardiac surgeries commencing in the year 2000. The first of its kind offering unmatched cardiac care, it revolutionised healthcare for the people of Sri Lanka.

Durdans has proven to be a centre of excellence in cardiology, cardiac surgery and cardiac investigative procedures both interventional and non-interventional with over 8,000 Cardiac Bypass procedures and over 24,000 Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory procedures completed. Durdans is served by some of the best cardiologists and cardiac surgeons

Durdans continuously strives to improve quality of care and has done so with the introduction of a revolutionary new generation of interventional X-ray systems, the Phillips AlluraClarity family FD10 with ClarityIQ technology which includes a comprehensive set of system-wide improvements that virtually ends the trade-off between X-ray dose and image quality.

ClarityIQ dramatically reduces X-ray dose typically by 50 percent in Interventional Cardiac procedures, 83 percent in Vascular Interventional procedures, and by 73 percent in Neurological procedures, while delivering increased image quality.

It incorporates powerful stateof-the-art i mage processing technology, developed by Philips Research, all working in real-time, enabled by the latest Catheterisation Laboratory technology, to assure optimum image quality with noise and artefact reduction with image enhancement and edge sharpening and automatic real-time patient and accidental table motion correction on live images.

Director Medical Services, Durdans Hospital & Durdans Heart Centre, Dr. Wimal Jayantha said, “Complex coronary interventional procedures including chronic total occlusions, retrograde CTO recanalisation, bypass graft studies and intervention and Rotablation (high speed drilling of arteries) assisted stenting procedures are now done at Durdans .

The ability to do such complex procedures at a low radiation dose to patient and operators is a definite benefit. Further, real-time stentboost facility gives zoomed-in images of adequacy of stent reach, to help clinicians optimise the chances of sizing the stents properly to give patients the best long term results.”

“This new technology will assist clinicians in serving our patients more efficiently and effectively”.Durdans Hospital is the first healthcare institution in Sri Lanka to be accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) USA with the Gold Seal of Approval® for conforming to the standard of a World-Class Healthcare Institution in patient safety and quality of care.
