Dr. Kelegama to take reins of Singer Industries

Prominent economist Dr.Samana Kelegama will be appointed Chairman of Singer Industries PLC with effect from April 1, 2015, the company said in stock exchange filing. 
His appointment comes in the wake of the retirement of highly respected business leader Hemaka Amarasuriya with effect from March 31, 2015.
Dr.Kelegama is the Chiarman of Singer Finance (Lanka) PLC, Director, Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC, Regnis (Lanka) PLC, S C Securities, Industrial Development Board, National Enterprise Development Authority and the Postgraduate Institute of Management.

He is also the Executive Director of Institute of Policy Studies, Sri Lanka and former President and Honourary Fellow of the Sri Lanka Economic Association.
He holds D.Phil (Economics) from the Oxford University, UK.
Amarasuirya joined the board of Singer Industries in 1982. He was appointed Deputy Managing Director the following year and Managing Director in 1985. In 1986, he was appointed the Chairman of the company and in 2010 the non-executive Chairman. 
Amarasuriya still holds the office of Chairman at Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC and Regnis (Lanka) PLC.
