Sri Lanka’s Central Bank has embarked on a local and international awareness campaign to refute misinformation and present the factual position of the economy and political environment, amid alleged attempts to tarnish the country’s image.

It also has secured the services of an international professional firm to assist its effort to portrait Sri Lanka’s true economic success, particularly in the US.

The US is a major market for Lankan exports and the US investors have made substantial investments and are leading holders of Sri Lankan bonds.

According to the Central Bank, an aggressive and well-funded misinformation campaign is being carried out by various groups with dubious agendas, both locally and internationally, to tarnish the political image and true economic successes of Sri Lanka.

“The Central Bank also notes with concern that if such a campaign continues without a counter campaign to correct misconceptions, it may have potential to create a highly detrimental image for Sri Lanka and erode the growing confidence of international investors in Sri Lanka,” the Central Bank said.
