Cathay Pacific Airways was named Cargo Airline of the Year at the 2010 Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) Awards held in Singapore last Wednesday. The airline was commended for "responding astutely to the downturn and the recent strong upswing in cargo demand and has laid an exceptional platform to benefit from China's economic and trade boom".

In addition to its strategic foresight, Cathay Pacific was also praised for applying capacity intelligently throughout the downturn to lead the recent recovery in air cargo and is poised to play a vital role in the region's development in this area. Representing the airline to receive the award was General Manager Cargo Sales and Marketing - James Woodrow.

In another acknowledgement of Cargo's service excellence, the team received an award from sanofi pasteur, the vaccines division of the sanofi-aventis Group on Friday. Sherman Cheung, Senior Director of Material Management of sanofi pasteur, flew in from Toronto to present the award to Director Cargo Nick Rhodes and thanked the airline for its contribution and dedication regarding the handling of their cold chain shipments.

"It's a great honour to receive the 2010 Cargo Airline of the Year award from CAPA and another award from sanofi pasteur in recognition of our service excellence. Cathay Pacific will continue to invest in our Pharma LIFT products as well as improve on our current cargo facilities to cope with the increasing needs of pharmaceutical shipments," elaborates Nick.
