Tea sector to receive US $ 150mn from Japanese banks

Following the special discussions held by Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake recently with the senior representatives of the two major Japanese banks – JMIC and MUFG, a sum of US $ 150 million is expected to receive at a concessionary interest rate. 


The funds are intended to be utilized to modify 500 tea factories in Sri Lanka. The tea smallholders are also to benefit greatly.


Plantation Industries Ministry Secretary J.A. Ranjith and Tea Small Holdings Development Authority officials too participated in the discussions.
