To meet the needs of women in various stages of life, Lanka Hospitals recently opened a women’s wellness centre, a diagnostic and treatment centre at the hospital’s first floor.
Built with an investment value of Rs. 80 million, the clinic includes five doctor’s chambers, one procedure room, Mammography area and an ultrasound department, Mirror Business learns.
It was noted that, it is dedicated exclusively for women and girls, helping them to look after their health and to stay healthy.
“The one-stop women’s wellness centre of Lanka Hospitals will be unique in providing the necessary privacy and convenience to the patient to undergo all ultrasound, Mammography, consultation and diagnostic procedures all in one place within a few hours,” Lanka Hospitals Chairman Dr. Sarath Paranavitane stated.
Modelled on par with international healthcare standards, it also houses a state-of-the-art digital mammogram machinery which expects to provide minimal discomfort and lowest radiation to patients.
It was noted that, the latest of its kind, Fujifilm, Amulet Innovality has the highest sensitivity to detect breast cancer at a very early stage while having the capability of performing breast biopsies and localisation procedures.
Consultant Oncological Surgeon Dr. Naomal Perera said that although Sri Lanka follows the same treatment protocols as in the West, survivors of breast cancer are not as many as in the developed world. “The reason lies in the fact that developed countries pick up breast cancer at very early stages through mass scale screening programs.
It is mandatory for all women over 20 years to self-examine breast at least once a month and all women over 40 years of age to undergo a mammography at least once in two years to detect the risk of breast cancer,” he said.
They also offer services such as pre-pubertal and also on menarche, menstrual disorders, treatment for gynaecological malignancies, women’s psychological care, family planning, health education, premarital counselling etc.
It was also mentioned that reasonably priced packages are designed to suit almost any budget and certain packages that have been designed also includes screening for other diseases such as diabetes etc.
