The Kanrich Basketball team’s first made headlines in 2015 as the Group Champions of the Mercantile Basketball Championship under Division D. The victory in 2015 gave them the opportunity to join Group C in 2016 at the Mercantile League Tournament organized by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association. The team now fondly dubbed as the ‘new noise in town’ is coached by the experienced Ajith Kuruppu, the present coach of the national team.
In a nail-biting final, the team won the Mercantile League Tournament against the formidable NDB team. In the face of strong crowd support for the opposing team, Chairth Perera scored big for the Kanrich Finance team contributing to a final score of 44 -33.
The undefeated team comprised of M.E. Rajapakshe (c), K.V. Wijesinghe (vc), E.A.T.R. De Alwis, S.P. Perera, T.C.M. Perera, S.S.M. Dias, H.D.S.M. Perera, K.B.M. Perera, W.P.S. Nishakya, B.A.S.D.D Jayarathne, M.D.M.P.S Meegaswatte and S.M.K.Gunawardhane. This group of champs contribute their winning steaks to excellent team work and supportive colleagues.
