National Human Resource Development Council (NHRDC) and International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody participating in the inauguration ceremony of the third batch of the Higher Diploma in Accounting and Finance programme at AAT Sri Lanka noted that the professional bodies need to work closely with the government and private sector to equip the current and future labour force with knowledge and competences appropriate for the world of work.
To achieve this, Weerakkody said the overall education sector coordination must improve. Currently, four ministries and provincial councils are doing this as a result of charting a path to education excellence is a challenge.

Further, he noted that while our education spending needs to be increased from the current 1.7 percent of gross domestic product, the spending increase needs to be matched with more effective spending.
