17 September 2013 04:30 am

The latest work of veteran journalist and writer Halaliye Karunatillka’s “Budun Sarana Giya Prethayo” (Prethas that sought refuge in the Buddha) will be launched at the Buddhist Congress Conference Hall, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 at 10.00 a.m. on September 22, 2013.

It is based on Prethawasthu stories (stories of hungry ghosts subject to eons of suffering due to their sins) that had been serialised in a weekend newspaper.
“Budun Saranagiya Prethayo” published by Navinna Sahitha publishers, in Maharagama,  is a presentation of Prethawasthu stories found in Buddhaka Nikaya, in simple language, and in an interesting  literary style appealing to the reader. The book contains several stories about Prethas whom Maharahats, Shariputtra, Moggallana, Maha Kasyapa, Sankichcha and Narada Maha Thera had met.

It is a nice portrayal of tormenting in the world of Prethas, which is one of the four hells as enunciated in the Buddhist scriptures.

The book contains several articles by Ven.Prof. Renukanke Chandawimala, Aggamaha Panditha Dr. Bellana Gnanawimala Thera and University lecturer Ven Polpipitimukalane Paggnasiri Thera.

Sanitha Publishers said, the book, launched to mark the literary month, will be available with the author’s signature for a discounted price, on the day of the launch.
