Verbal communication stands as one of the most effective forms of communication, and thus each and every individual use different languages to express themselves. For an instance, a newborn is taught a language at home. Then the child is sent to kindergarten, where he or she learns the alphabet. Later, the child learns finer points of grammar and by the time the child leaves school, he or she will be well-versed in mother-tongue or a second language.
When you consider today’s context, being English literate is essential. English of course is part and parcel of a person’s professional life.
The book titled ‘English for Everyone,’ authored by S.K. Yapa, acts as a catalyst in teaching finer points of the language. Divided into two sections, the book’s main focus is on verbs and prefect tenses.
Citing a speech in the first few pages of the book, the authour talks of three main parts of a sentence and then goes on explaining nouns, verbs and pronouns. Chapter three however elaborates on irregular verbs, gradually taking the reader deep into the language. It further focuses on continuous /progressive forms and gerund.
The second part of the book comprises of affirmative, negative and interrogative forms. Then the focus is on persons and tenses. Chapters are dedicated to present, past, future and perfect tenses. The book certainly is a perfect manual to all, from a school leaver interested in studying English to a professional in the language.
Mr. Yapa, educated in the UK, is an Attorney by profession. He also holds an Honours Degree in Arts as well as a Diploma in English.
