Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar inquiring into the killing of Bambalapitiya businessman Mohamed Shyam yesterday re-remanded former DIG Vaas Gunawardena and four others for three more months.
Trial-at-Bar Judges Lalith Jayasuriya and Leon Seneviratne refused the bail applications made on behalf of the accused -- Vaas Gunawardena, Krishantha Koralage, Lakmina Indika Bamunusinghe, Priyantha Sanjeewa and Kelum Rangana Dassanayake and upheld the objections raised by Deputy Solicitor General (DSG)
Ayesha Jinasena.
On a request made by the DSG, the Court directed the Court Registrar to send the case brief to the Supreme Court for examination during the inquiry into the appeal applications filed by the defence counsel against the order made by the Trial–at–Bar Judges against request for the dismissal of the trial as the indictment was bad and contrary to the PTA and the Criminal Procedure Code.
The Court put off the case for October 14 in case the Supreme Court did not act on the appeals or if they were rejected.
Ravindu Vaas Gunawardena was earlier re-remanded
from August 7.
