The government yesterday agreed to provide clinical training in government hospitals for students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), which is located  in Malabe.
The agreement was reached in the Supreme Court when a fundamental rights petition filed by five students of SAITM requesting clinical training at state hospitals was taken up before a two judge bench.
The case was taken up before Justices Eva Wanasundara and Chandra Ekanayake.
The petitioners had cited the Minister of Health, the Minister of Higher Education, the University Grants Commission and ten officials as respondents.  The petition was withdrawn during the court proceedings following the agreement.
