SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday assured to put an end to violence against women and to uphold equal rights for the differently-abled.

Speaking at a rally in Galagedara yesterday, Mr. Rajapaksa said women undergo many difficulties and that his government will put an end to violence against them.

“We have paid special attention towards women. Whenever I meet them when I travel across the country, they ask to ensure the security in the country. When their husbands and children go off to work and school, women keep worrying about their safety. We will create a secure country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rajapaksa said he would implement the international protocols which uphold the rights of the differently-abled. “It was us who created pavements in Colombo which have the special features for the differently-abled. They should also have equal privileges as the other citizens in education, when seeking employment and voting,” he said.  SLPP and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, MPs Keheliya Rambukwella, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Kanaka Herath, Dilum Amunugama and Dr. Seetha Arambewela also spoke at the rally.
