Two flyovers will be constructed near the Kompanna Veediya Railway station in Colombo 2 to ease the heavy traffic snarl at a cost of Rs. 6 billion, co-cabinet spokesman and Minister Udaya Gammanpila said yesterday.   He told the weekly cabinet news briefing that the two flyovers will come over the railway line at Uttarananda Mawatha near the Kompanna Veediya Railway Station

Railway lines across Uttarananda Mawatha and Justice Akbar Mawatha cause heavy traffic congestion during peak hours. Flyovers and a one-way traffic plan have been designed to avoid this situation. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Highways Minister to implement this project and call bids from eligible local contractors for the construction of three flyovers under the project, Minister Gammanpila added. .

The cabinet approval was granted for the two projects on Wednesday.
