Transport Ministry forewarns Death toll may reach 3000 due to road accidents this year: Minister Amaraweera

The Transport Ministry had forewarned that there would be a possibility of more than 3, 000 individuals getting killed due to road accidents within this year, Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said. He said while strengthening the transport service in the country there is a possibility of reducing the road accidents.   


“The Ministry had predicted the statistics after evaluating the deaths and road accidents in the past year,” the Minister said.The Majority of the deaths were of the young individuals with increased productivity who can contribute for the development of this country. 


According to the available reports of the Ministry, more than Rs.100 billion rupees had to be spent to treat the road traffic victims annually during the past years. Therefore, it is relevant to develop the transportation system in the country to reduce the road accidents, the Minister added.
