A group of three suspected drug peddlers were arrested and 218 packets of heroin seized by Tirappane Police during a raid at Nachchaduwa junction in Galkulama. During the raid, police seized the motorcycle used for the contraband trade of distributing heroin.
Police said the suspects had been carrying on the racket during the curfew hours through Easy Cash money transaction system. The suspects were residents of Matale junction and Kahatagasdigiliya areas. Investigations revealed that they had credited cash through Easy Cash system to the account of the procurer and collected the stock which had been hidden in a secret location.
Under interrogation, the suspects stated that the trade value of the stock of heroin was valued about Rs.655,000. They were produced before Anuradhapura Addl. District Judge Janaka Prasanna and remanded till May 06.
