Advanced Level (A/L) students in ‘1AB’ schools will be provided with tablet PCs (tabs) within one and a half months, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said yesterday while addressing a ceremony held at the Temple Trees to handover appointment letters to 3,888 sports instructors in schools countrywide.

“Cabinet approval has been granted to distribute tabs among A/L students. The pilot programme will be launched by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe before long. With the help of tabs connected to internet, students will be able to seek knowledge at any given time and from anywhere. A/L students can utilise internet facilities to follow lectures delivered by experts. The distribution of tabs will be run as a programme to transform school education to suit global standards of modern education,” he said.

Earlier, he had instructed the Examinations Commissioner to make necessary arrangements to include contents on textbooks and other course material into tabs so that teachers as well as students wouldn’t have to refer to the syllabus and textbooks.
