The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society conducted a comprehensive assessment aftermath of the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks in all three affected districts. The Red Cross teams visited victims’ houses and gathered necessary information with the aim of supporting them to recover from this tragedy. Paper advertisements were also published in all three languages (Sinhala/Tamil/English) in view to collect information of the victims. Information was also gathered with the support of other sources such as the Ministries of Public Administration, Defence and Disaster Management.
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society will address short and long term needs of the people affected. It will cover areas such as Livelihood, Educational support, Unconditional cash grants and psycho-social support. The SLRCS has allocated Rs.10 million to restart their livelihood.
100 families will receive Rs.100,000 each under this livelihood grant. 200 children affected due to this attack will receive Rs. 60,000 per year to continue their education. Moreover, an educational scholarship fund will be setup to provide continuous educational support until they complete their education. Another Rs.8 million is to be allocated to provide psycho-social support which is identified as another key area that needs support.
Considering the current situation of the country, Rs.17 million is allocated in order to promote social cohesion. As a short term relief, 300 affected families will receive a sum of Rs. 30,000 as unconditional cash grant.
