An MP in the committee appointed to probe the Mahara Prison incident had uttered certain matters about the incident publicly thus making the probe questionable, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday.

“ We wonder whether the probe is going to be an independent one considering the manner in which this MP spoke during a recent TV programme,” Mr. Premadasa said.

“ The issue here is that this MP is a member of the committee that has been appointed to look into Mahara incident,” he added.

State Minister of Prison Management Lohan Ratwatte while  responding to the matter said the MP had only talked about what had been included in the interim report  about the probe and added that the MP’s statements  had no impact whatsoever on the probe.
