An election office of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was opened on Saturday in Kalmunai where United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa  polled only around 5,000 votes while the Opposition’s common candidate Maithripala Sirisena bagged more than 50,000 votes at the last presidential election.
The event held near the Thravai Pilliar Kovil in Kalmunai was presided over by SLPP Kalmunai organiser Ahmad Furkhan and  was attended by Leader of the SLPP Muslim Wing leader Milber Kafoor.

Furkhan was critical of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauff Hakeem and Sri Lanka Makkal Congress Leader Rishard Bathiuthhen for holding ministerial posts in the Mahinda Rajapaksa government after supporting former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka at the Presidential election held in 2010.
