A quack suspected to have travelled from Ragama to his house at Malimboda in Matara displaying a medical services sticker on his windscreen of his motorcar without a curfew pass was arrested by Malimboda Police during a raid on his house.
Police carried out the raid on a tip- off received by OIC Malimboda Police Chandra Jayawickerama. When questioned by the police, he had stated that he was a doctor in a private hospital in Ragama. However, investigations revealed that he was a minor employee in a private hospital and that he had been using a forged medical services sticker to travel without a curfew pass. Police said the suspect had been carrying a stethoscope on the dash board to mislead the police.
A senior police official said the suspect had been arrested and remanded in the past when he entered the Matara Hospital and examined the patients, and had been released on bail. Police official said the case against the suspect was pending in the Matara Magistrate Court.
Meanwhile, the police and the health authorities placed the members of his family and several of his relatives under self quarantine in their respective houses.
OIC of the Malimboda Police Chandra Jayawickreme is conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP Susil Wijeyagunaratne, SSP Anil Priyantha and Senior DIG Rohan J Silva.
