With the torrential rains being experienced in Kandy a portion of the ancient protective bund of the moat surrounding the Sacred Dalada Maligawa had collapsed.
A portion measuring around 10 meters of the protective bund of the moat constructed separating the ancient Kandyan palace and the Sri Vishnu Devalaya built during the Kandyan kingdom had collapsed posing a threat of a further collapse of another section.
When inquired about the matter from the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Pradeep Nilanga Dela he said that he had already brought the matter to the notice of the Archaeological Department and the relevant officials and action will be taken to attend to the repairs as early as possible.
