The Roads & Highways, Ports and Shipping Ministry is looking into the possibilities on how to develop the Galle Face Green, ministry sources said.
This was discussed during a meeting held at the ministry chaired by subject minister Johnston Fernando.
Minister Fernando had highlighted the importance of further developing Galle Face Green through creating a clean and attractive environment and lighting up the walking paths using solar powered lighting.
Galle Face Green is popular as a place for spending leisure time and is a place where a large number of people gather. But in the evenings, due to absence of enough lighting, people are reluctant to spend time there with their families.
Taking the issues into consideration Minister Johnston Fernando advised relevant officials to use solar power to light up the walking paths and surrounding area. Moreover, Minister Fernando directed officials to take assistance of a Planner to process the project in an attractive manner.
