Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to investigate the corruption of the current administration yesterday offered an opportunity to Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to defend himself against the allegations levelled against him before the PCoI.  If he was to defend himself, he could appear before PCoI on June 11, it is said.  Chiarmana of the PCoI Upali Aberatne directed the Commission that a number of evidence had been presented before the PCoI against the Minister and now he could present his explanation before the Commission.
Currently evidence of three separate cases, regarding the purchase of tab computers, printing of school text books and purchasing of school uniforms are being recorded at the PCoI.
Early yesterday, Accountant to the Ministry of Education, Senarath Gunasekera was asked by the Presidential Commission investigate frauds that had taken place under the current administration and to return on another day as he did not have the necessary documents regarding the investigation on printing of school text books.

When Mr. Gunasekera was questioned about the correspondence between the procurement committee and the Ministry, it was revealed that he did not possess all the documents necessary to draw a clear picture of what had transpired. The PCoI instructed him to return once he had  all the documents in his possession.
