Several former opposition members of Parliament had sought information regarding the status of COVID-19 under the Right to Information Act from the Health ministry, one of the former MPs Dr. Harsha de Silva said yesterday.
Dr. De Silva who was one of the former MPs who met Director General Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe told Daily Mirror that they sought information on COVID-19 which included the number of tests the authorities have carried out so far and also the random testings carried out so far and the number of people who had been found to be positive without any symptoms. “ We needed this information as we feel that the cases could be under reported”. “ We had a cordial discussion with Dr. Jasinghe who told us that random testing had already been started. He also informed us that the Suwaseriya ambulance service has been a great help when dealing with COVID-19’ he added.
Dr Jasinghe had informed the former MPs that private hospitals have already been allowed to carry out PCR tests.
Other former MPs who participated in the meeting were Mujibur Rahaman, Gamini Wijeyamuni de Soysa and
