JVP MP Vijitha Herath told Parliament yesterday that there was no Parliament Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe allegations levelled against Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and requested the Speaker to allocate a date to debate the no-confidence motion against the minister.

He said a PSC was appointed to look into the Easter Sunday bombings but no proposal was made to appoint a committee to investigate into the allegations levelled against Minister Bathiudeen. “There is no provision in the Standing Orders not to take a no-confidence motion and requested the Speaker to allocate a date in this regard. The motion brought by the JVP against the government can be taken up only after debating the NCM against Minister Bathiudeen as it had been submitted earlier,” he said.
