With a view of creating awareness on the use of Electronic Media in the upcoming election all heads of Electronic Media and the executive officers have been summoned today before the commission by the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya.
The Director Planning of the Commission Channa P. de Silva stated that this meeting is scheduled to be held at the Auditorium of the Commission from 11.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon chaired by the Election Commissioner.
The Director said that several subjects including the guidelines already introduced to the Electronic Media and the use of Electronic Media during the election are to be discussed in detail at this meeting.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Media and officials of the Election Commission’s office are due to participate at this meeting. Meanwhile, all District Returning Officers and Assistant and Deputy Commissioners have been called before the Commission tomorrow (05) to discuss about the upcoming election.
It is expected to discuss, the preparation of polling booths, provision of security to the booths, distribution of polling cards, establishment of party offices, and the deployment of officers for election duty etc. at this meeting.
The General Election is to be held on April 25 and the acceptance of nominations is to take place from March 12 to 19.
