TNA MP Mavai Senathirajah yesterday called for a political solution to the national issue based on Federalism.   Mr. Senathirajah made this statement at a ceremony held in Jaffna to distribute Samurdhi to new recipients.

The TNA MP actually called for federalism denouncing the statement made by President Maithripala Sirisena in Delhi recently that solution to the national issue in Sri Lanka will be based on the 13th Amendment to the constitution.

“We cannot agree to a solution based on the 13th Amendment as we want a solution based on cooperative federalism,” the MP said.

The MP said “even Prime Minister Narendra Modi also suggested that the solution to the national issue should go beyond  the 13th Amendment when he addressed Sri Lankan Parliament few years ago”.

“Tamil community is being continuously deceived by all governments. We don’t know where to go to find a solution to the national issue,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jaffna Mayor Emmanuel Arnold called for the resumption of air and sea transportation between Jaffna and Tamil Nadu.

“Economy in Jaffna could be developed if air and sea transportation is developed between Jaffna and Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Arnold further said.
