A group of Sri Lankans living in USA on Monday donated 15 metal detectors to Sri Lanka Navy to strengthen its detection capabilities.

Following the series of terror attacks on Easter Sunday, Sri Lankans living in USA began a fundraiser to strengthen the detection capabilities of the armed forces, the Navy said.
Accordingly, the metal detectors worth approximately Rs. 400,000 were shipped to Sri Lanka and handed over to the navy in an attempt to strengthen its capabilities during explosive detection.

Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva officially handed over these 15 metal detectors to the Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle at the Naval Headquarters on Monday.

The Navy Commander extended his gratitude towards the generous gesture of the fundraisers in this hour of need, the navy said.
