The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will reveal its Presidential candidate this month at a mass rally to be held at Galle Face grounds on August 18, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said on Wednesday. He said the JVP would face future elections including the upcoming presidential election under National Peoples’ Power (NPP) which was formed with intellectuals and professionals.  He told a news conference organised by the NPP that all main political parties were in a foray to find presidential candidates while none of them were talking about their economic or political policies. “The two main parties have no desire to develop the country but more concerned about finding a candidate.

They try to gain power at any cost by fishing in troubled waters. They never talk about their policy and action plan to develop the country,” he said.   Mr. Silva said a solitary leadership alone cannot change a country and added that a strong peoples’ movement and clear policies were needed to do that. “A country cannot be changed by leaders who were working for power and their privileges. The leaders should have commitment and honesty for that,” he said. He said the new liberal economic strategy had proved impractical for the last 40 years and added that the country needed a change of policies now.
