The government has decided to transfer the inmates in other prisons with serious criminal charges to the Boossa Prison in Galle, under tight security.
Accordingly, necessary changes in the structure of the prison buildings at the Boossa prison have already been effected, Monitoring MP of the Justice Ministry Wijepala Hettiarachchi said.Out of the 486 currently detained in Boossa prison, 20 are hardcore criminals. A number of new guard rooms and cells have been constructed to strengthen the security at the Boossa Prison after the decision taken to transfer the hardcore criminals there, he said.
Apart from these changes special security measures have also been introduced with the view of stopping the possibilities of drug rackets being carried out within the prison premises, the minister further said.
