GMOA to launch programme to help people quit smoking, drinking

A decision has been taken to implement a programme on Grama Niladhari Divisional level to help people quit smoking and drinking as a measure to minimize the number of Covid-19 fatalities, Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said.   


President of the GMOA- Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya said there were 14, 400 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the country and as a first step, details of people who are addicted to liquor and smoking would be collected through the GN officials.  “Based on the details collected, a special programme will be implemented and its preliminary level will be launched on November 26,” he said.   


He added that the measure had been taken owing to the huge impact  of Covid-19 on people who were addicted to liquor and smoking.
