An efficient service could be provided to hospitals  presently run by the Provincial Councils, by taking them under the wings  of the Central Government and the attention of the President has been  drawn towards the matter, a State Minister said yesterday.

State Minister of Drug Production, Supply and Regulation,  Prof. Channa Jayasumana said so addressing the media briefing at the end  of the donation event held last week at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital  where Ven. Rajawelle Subhooti Thera donated medical equipment needed for  patients.

Although there were several sectors which were developed  under Provincial Councils, the health sector did not achieve the  expected goals

He also said that although there were several sectors which  were developed under Provincial Councils, the health sector did not  achieve the expected goals. “We witnessed that the distribution of staff  members under the Provincial Council and Central Government also  affected the efficiency in providing services.

“For an example, the hospital in the centre of the North  Eastern Province is dilapidated and people do not get any services. We  believe that by taking them under the Central Government, we might  provide an efficient service. We have brought this matter to the  President’s attention,” he said.

“We expect that the rest of the Oxford AstraZeneca Vaccine  stock would be brought to the country soon as vaccinations programmes  are under-way.We have also prepared plans to bring Russia’s Sputnik V  vaccine and hope to confirm the order during the next week after  discussing with the manufacturing company,” he added.
