Atulugama assault: Four more suspects arrested in Kaltota

Four more suspects who were wanted over the assault of a group of police officers at a raid at Atulugama in Bandaragama, were arrested in Kaltota yesterday.   


Police said the suspects who were evading  arrest were hiding in the Kaltota area.   The arrested aged between 18 and 27 who are residents of Atulugama are to be produced in the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court.   Earlier, police arrested five persons including a woman over the assault and were remanded till September 24.  A group of police officers attached to the Bandaragama Police were conducting a raid at Atulugama when they came under attack by a group of residents on September 9.    Two Sub Inspectors and two women police officers were injured in the attack.  The police also arrested two suspects with some 77 kilogrammes of nitric acid which is used in the manufacture of explosives from Atulugama on September 11 during a search operation.
