An inquiry to the Sooriyawewa incident by Sports Minister

Sports Minister Dullas Alahpperuma said yesterday he had directed the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Secretary of the ministry  to conduct an inquiry into the incident where cricket fans were assaulted at the cricket counter at the Sooriyawewa stadium during the match between Sri Lanka and West Indies.   


He said he did not approve of the incident and strongly condemned the attack as the Minister of Sports. “It is regrettable to have taken place such an incident in a country where there are people who loved and respect cricket and players. I ordered the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and ministry secretary to conduct an immediate inquiry and submit a report to me,” he said.The Minister said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had telephoned him and asked him to call for an immediate inquiry into the incident.
