Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) MP Lakshman Kiriella yesterday urged the government to acquire the estates which have been given to private sector if the plantation companies fail to increase daily wages of plantation workers to Rs. 1,000.   Mr. Kiriella who was speaking during a press conference said he requested the plantation companies to handover the estates to government whenever they refused to increase the wages.

“ If the companies are asked to handover the estates to the government, they will be compelled to increase the wages. This is because they are not prepared to handover the estate as they earn large amount of profit through them. Estates are like gold- mines for them “ he said.

Meanwhile SJB MP and Leader of Tamil Progressive Alliance Leader Mano Ganesan said he will raise a question on the wages of plantation worker in Parliament on January 5, 2020. “ I expect to receive a positive response in this regard ,” he said.
