AG instructs to reopen investigations of case after 11 years

The Attorney General has instructed Kalutara North Police after eleven years to re-open investigations into the death of two suspects in remand custody in the Kalutara Prisons on April 5, 2009. He has instructed the police to arrest three prison officers in connection with the incident and produce them in court on murder charges.   
A senior police official said it was an arduous task to trace the investigation records and the statements of witnesses regarding the shooting. He said the police had submitted a report to then Kalutara Magistrate Anura Seneviratne who held the preliminary magisterial inquiry and AJMO Nagoda hospital who performed the postmortem examination had reported that the death was due to gunshot injuries. 

 
The attorney general has instructed the police to arrest and produce before Kalutara Chief Magistrte on February 10, the three prison officials suspected of the shooting.
