An evening of music featuring Jugalbandi Esraj, flute and tabla recital by Pamalka Manjitha Karunanayake (Esraj), Asya Shivaya (flute) and Pablo Grace (tabla) will be held on February 3 from 6.00 p.m. onwards at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (formerly Indian Cultural Centre), 16/2 Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.
Mr. Pamalka Manjitha Karunanayake is an upcoming Sri Lankan Esraj player who completed his Sangit Nipun at Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith in Lucknow, India. He is the director and founder of ‘SASANI Institute for Music’ in Kegalle.
Ms. Asya Shivaya is a multi-instrumentalist playing tabla, bansuri, western flute, drums and didgeridoo. She is a student of renowned teachers and gurus from India and Russia. She learnt tabla from eminent gurus Pt. Anil Dixit (Delhi Gharana), Pt. Radheshyam Sharma (tabla and pakhawaj guru of Ajrara Gharana), Pt. Sarit Das (Farukhabadgharana), Pt. Vinod Lele and Benares Gharana. She was a recipient of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship and learnt tabla from Pt. Virendra Malviya (Farukhabadgharana) at Shri Ram Bhartya Kala Kendra in New Delhi where she completed her diploma in tabla. Pt. Sarit Das (Farukhabadgharana) inspired her and Pablo for Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya in tabla. They have soared to the level of Visharad. Ms. Asya Shivaya learnt flute (bansuri) from eminent gurus Pt. Rajkishore Dalbehera and Pt. Kailash Sharma.

Pablo Grace learnt tabla from guru Rasikananda Das, Pt. Virendra Malviya, Pt. Sarit Das and Pt. Vinod Lele. He too was a recipient of the ICCR scholarship and studied at Sri Ram Bhartya Kala Kendra in India.
Together, Asya Shivaya and Pablo Grace have performed in several countries including Russia, Argentina, South Africa and India.
