Dr. Sinnadurai Somasekeram, Medical Consultant, expired on September 13 in the United Kingdom. The remains of the late Somasekeram lie at 71, Wansunt Rd., Bexley, Kent.  The funeral will take place in Bexley on September 25.

He was the third son of a family of nine sons of Colombo’s businessman and philanthropist S.T. Sinnadurai. Somasekaram. He had to abandon his studies at Primary school Ananda College, Colombo, owing to the government decision at that time to shift education to Sinhala medium in government schools in the country.

Thereafter he entered Jaffna College and became the Head Prefect and entered Medical Faculty of Colombo University. The Faculty chose him with another two students to represent them at a seminar in Japan.

After serving in Sri Lanka for a short time he received specialised training in UK and was working at hospitals there. His two elder brothers, Old Anandians Sunderalingam and Balendra were successful lawyers practising at Colombo bar, Sunderalingam became the personal lawyer of the then President Ranasinghe Premadasa. Two lawyer brothers predeceased him. I met Dr. Somasekeram a few months ago at the residence of his younger brother Dhesabandu at Isipatana Mawatha, Havelock Town (Sinhala name given to him on the request of Sinhala poets including Ananda Rajakaruna, Sagara Palansuriya and Ranasinghe Premadasa; who were at their residence at Telippalai of KKS on the day the son was born).  All the nine sons of Sinnadurai family are devout and practicing Hindus and take part in religious activities at Buddhist Viharayas Sri Dharmodhaya Pirivena Viharaya, Wellawatte, Sri Bodhiraja Mangalaramaya, Palamugedera, Maho as well. Another brother Sokkanathan is employed as an Engineer in New York, USA. May Somasekaram attain Moksha.
